General Educational Development (or GED) tests are a group of five subject tests which, when passed, certify that the test taker has American high school-level academic skills. The American Council on Education is the sole developer for the GED test. Individuals living in Myanmar are eligible to take the GED Tests through the Computer-based Test offered by Prometric-authorized test centers in Yangon. The Computer-based GED Tests are the only way to earn a US High School Equivalency Diploma internationally.
The GED test battery is composed of five subject tests that each assesses the skills and knowledge in a core high school academic subject. The five subjects are:
- Language Arts, Reading
- Language Arts, Writing
- Mathematics
- Science
- Social Studies
Instead of taking the five subject tests separately, a candidate has the option to take the GED test battery in a linked format:
- Linked 1 (Language Arts, Reading + Language Arts, Writing)
- Linked 2 (Mathematics+ Science + Social Studies)
All the tests contain multiple-choice questions. However, The Writing Skills Test includes an essay section where the candidate will be asked to write an essay on a topic of general interest (to be typed on Computer Screen).
